About The Shows...
All Hooked On Books shows are written, produced and directed by Jane Noble and Laurie Brazzill, based on a selection of children's books.
They are designed for elementary school children and are divided into two segments - one for Primary students and one for Intermediate students because different age groups read different books. Each segment features four books and lasts 35-40 minutes. Our performance fee covers both shows. If however schools would prefer to schedule one single performance, we are happy to provide a combined show for K-7 that last approximately 50 minutes. A full Study Guide for teachers is provided for each show.
To take full advantage of the excitement that a Hooked on Books show creates, it is essential that the books featured in the performance are available in your school library immediately after the show. Although Hooked on Books does not sell the featured titles, they can be purchased through United Library Services that offers discounts to schools.
Format...
The Hooked On Books actors Laurie Brazzill, Jane Noble and Don Stewart don't talk about books, they don't read books aloud, they bring books to life on the stage in short, tantalizing mini plays that capture the essence of a book without giving everything away. We call these mini plays booktrailers. Some of the booktrailers in the intermediate show are left as cliffhangers so children have to read the book to find out what happens.
